The Golden State Warriors got more interesting with the addition of DeMarcus Cousins. If he was healthy all eyes would be on him but since he won’t be ready until maybe January, I think all eyes will be on Klay Thompson. With four healthy All-Stars anyone of those players could be the focal point. I decided to go with Thompson because he’s the quiet one and won’t say much during the season.
Klay is probably the most underrated of the four stars. He doesn’t talk much after games and he just goes out and hoops. He’s made 220+ 3-pointers the last five seasons and he’s averaged at least 20 ppg the last four years. He took less shots overall but he’s still efficient.
He’s a great defender and a great shooter and he has no issues guarding the point guard or shooting guard. All eyes will be on Thompson because he has the chance to sign an extension with the Warriors. Kevin Durant resigned for another year and can be a free agent but Thompson may be more important than Durant.
According to cap expert Albert Nahmad, “Thompson would lose $86-million-dollars if he signs extension with Warriors”. People believe he wants to stay with the Warriors but not at that big of a discount. If Thompson becomes an unrestricted free agent, he could sign a deal for $188-million.
It would be the biggest surprise if Klay Thompson actually left the Warriors. What would the Warriors look like without Klay? He’s such a solid player who doesn’t ask for much. He’s a big time playoff player who takes over during game 6’s.
Draymond Green may talk about his contract, people will speculate about Durant’s contract for next year and Klay will probably be quiet until it is announced he won’t sign an extension. Green may be the most important of the three but losing Thompson would be devastating for this team.
