Steph Curry is the best shooter ever. I’m sure you have heard that before. The guy is just other worldly when he shoots 3-pointers. In the past week he has passed Kobe Bryant and Chauncey Billups on the all-time 3-pointers made list. Think about that for a second, Kobe Bryant just retired and Curry has already passed him.
Kobe Bryant played in 1346 games and Chauncey Billups played in 1043 games. Steph Curry has only played in 556 games.
Non fans of Curry will simple say all he does is shoot 3-pointers, he’s just lucky. There is no luck needed for Curry. The guy has mastered the art of shooting. If you want to teach kids how to shoot you DO NOT show them Steph Curry highlights. Klay Thompson is the guy with the perfect form that you want to show children. Curry is just a different breed.
There are seven current players in the top 10 of 3-pointers made although Paul Pierce does not play much. Curry has four of the best 3-pointers made seasons, including 3 of the top 4. During the 2014-15 season Curry took a then NBA record 646 3-pointers, he made 286 which was an NBA record. He shot 44% on those shots. That’s not luck. In the next season he shot 886 3-pointers, he made 402 which is now the NBA record and he shot 45%.
The top 3 leaders in made 3-pointers are Ray Allen, Reggie Miller and Jason Terry. All three guys have played over 1300 games. Ray Allen had 4 seasons where he made over 200 3-pointers, Miller had one season and Terry has zero seasons of making over 200 3-pointers. Curry has 5 seasons with over 200 made 3-pointers. In 4 of those seasons he has made over 250 3-pointers, he’s at 240 made 3-pointers this season.
Appreciate Curry while you can, he’s doing things we have never seen. This year he’s slumping because he’s only shooting 39% from 3-point range and yet he will have another season with over 250 made 3-pointers. He will probably be in the top five at the end of next season.
