The Milwaukee Bucks are sitting at 1-3 to start the season. They played their first game without Jabari Parker and Giannis Antetokounmpo. Giannis eventually returned and has put up some good numbers but Parker was still out. Jabari Parker will play in his first game on Wednesday since tearing his ACL in December.
Parker was limited to only 25 games. In that time he was averaging 12.3 ppg, 5.5 rpg while shooting 49% from the field. He was getting better as the season went on. The last six games before his injury he shot better than 50% from the field while averaging 15 points. The Bucks were 13-12 went he went down and they eventually finished 41-41 and made the playoffs.
Milwaukee has improved offensively but they are struggling on the defensive end giving up 110.5 ppg. Last season they were one of the best defensive teams and that was the reason they made the playoffs. Parker won’t help them on the defensive end but it will give them more depth. He is a scorer and he can create his own shot, although it remains to be seen how long it will take him to get back to form.
According to Coach Jason Kidd, “Parker will be limited to 15-20 minutes to start and may not play in back-to-back sets.”
There shouldn’t be a rush to push Jabari Parker. Right now the Bucks are getting good performances from Giannis and newly acquired Greg Monroe. He is averaging 22.7 ppg and 8.7 rpg. He’s shooting the ball at a high percentage and just looks more comfortable this season. Monroe is averaging 20 and 9 but he needs to improve on the defensive end.
Milwaukee will be a better team going forward with the return of Jabari Parker. It will take him a while to find his groove but he will make plays that help this team. It is a long season and they should improve defensively to make another at the playoffs.
