NBA training camps just started and we already have an injury. Derrick Rose took an elbow from a teammate and has a left orbital fracture. He quickly had surgery on Wednesday morning and he should resume basketball activities in two weeks.
There were plenty of jokes going around because Rose was hurt again. I won’t go into details about all the injuries he has had in the past. He’s been banged up since he won the MVP award.
It’s never good hearing about a player going down with an injury especially before the season starts. Some people have counted Rose out since he tore his ACL. The guy has had some bad luck on the court with all these injuries. There are two reasons to be optimistic even though he had surgery; first there was no structural damage to his eye and this was not an injury in which his body betrayed him.
Derrick Rose fans and Chicago Bull fans should be happy this was not a leg, knee, foot or lower body injury. He was unlucky and took an elbow from a teammate. Amar’e Stoudemire kept getting poked in his eye and eventually got injured so that’s why he wears those goggles now. So these types of injuries could happen to anyone and he’ll be back on the court sooner rather than later.
This is a minor setback for Rose and people are going to overreact to any injury he has. He will be back and have a productive season for the Chicago Bulls.
