The 2015 All-Star rosters have been revealed. This whole process is a joke. The fan voting for the starters has long been a joke and now the coaches are giving out life time achievement awards for the reserves.
In the East Carmelo Anthony should not be among the starters for the Eastern Conference. It is good to see Kyle Lowry and John Wall starting in the backcourt. The reserves feature three Atlanta Hawks and I have no problem with that.
The Hawks are the hottest team in basketball and have the most wins in the NBA this season. They deserve to have multiple All-Stars. Kyrie Irving is having a solid season and been on a scoring tear recently. He solidified his All-Star stamp with his 55 point game against the Blazers. Jimmy Butler is having a career year for the Bulls so he deserves a spot.
I have no problem with All-Stars from bad teams. Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade are having good seasons but it would have been nice to see Brandon Knight there. He has played in every game for the Milwaukee Bucks and they do have a winning record. Bosh and Wade have both missed time this season for a struggling Miami Heat team.
Wade will most likely miss the game and be replaced. Kyle Korver or Brandon Knight might get that spot in place of Wade.
The Western Conference starters are all good except Kobe Bryant. The fans love him but we all know James Harden should have been the starter. Kobe is out for the season so Harden might get to start in his place.
The reserves for the West are terrible in my honest opinion. Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and Tim Duncan should not be there. Klay Thompson, Chris Paul, James Harden and LaMarcus Aldridge all deserve a spot.
Duncan is having a solid season averaging 14.7 ppg, 10 rpg and 2 blkpg. Durant and Westbrook both missed time for the Oklahoma City Thunder and other players deserve to be there over them.
DeMarcus Cousins is the biggest snub of the game. The guy is averaging 23.8 ppg and 12.3 rpg. He is the best center in the NBA and he is left out of the All-Star game. His team is not good but that should not matter for an All-Star game. He is putting up big numbers and deserves to be there.
Zach Randolph, Monta Ellis, and Damian Lillard all have cases to be All-Stars this season. Z-Bo is averaging 17 ppg and 12 rpg for the second place Memphis Grizzlies. Damian Lillard has been there all season for the Blazers, averaging 21 ppg and 6.2 apg. He has knocked down big shots for a Blazers team that is sitting in third place in the West.
Westbrook and Durant are good enough to be All-Stars but they haven’t played enough. They are both amazing but a guy like Lillard or even Monta Ellis has been in the majority of games for their teams.
Tim Duncan is another guy who is having a good season but was selected because of his name. It is no fun for anyone when Duncan plays about five minutes in the All-Star game because he wants to rest.
The entire voting format needs to change. There will always be a snub because there are so many talented players. A different format might get some more deserving All-Stars into the game. It is an exhibition game, players that put up big numbers should get in.
