Team USA vs Finland was over before it started. USA came out with a defensive intensity and held Finland to only 16 points in the first quarter. Derrick Rose looked fresh, he was more aggressive and attacking the basket. Team USA ended the quarter on a 20-8 run.
The second quarter was not any better for Finland as they managed to score only two points. Yep you read that right, they hit two free throws. They were 0-17 from the field. Team USA outscored Finland 29-2 in the quarter. The defense was all over the place for Team USA. They played the pick and roll very well and contested every shot.
The defense forced 17 turnovers in the half which they converted to easy baskets. Anthony Davis got hot in the quarter, showing off an array of moves. He scored a quick seven points at one point before exiting the game. Rose had a nice move where he finished with a two handed slam that really got the bench excited. Team USA led by 42; 60-18 at the half.
The game was in hand during third quarter but Finland did play much better. The bench for team USA got a lot of playing time in the 2nd half. All twelve players played and scored. Anthony Davis led the starters with 17 points while Klay Thompson led all scorers with 18.
Derrick Rose had his best game so far scoring 12 points. The game as a blowout but this team can get better. They still have to understand the way the game is called; Stephen Curry seems to be having trouble staying on the floor in these games. He fouled out last game and he only hit one shot against Finland. He was 0-5 from three point land. He seems to be the only starter that has not had a breakout game yet.
The ball movement was much better and the defense was there from the start of the game. They forced 31 turnovers, 18 of them steals and 20 assists. Finland was limited to only five assists the entire game. The 59 point win is the second-largest ever by the US in the World Championships. Team USA will be back on the floor today at 3:30 against Turkey.
