The New York Knicks won 54 games during the 2012-13 season. They flamed out in the playoffs and lost to the Pacers. We expected them to have another good season but then they only won 37 games this previous season.
This was the first time Carmelo Anthony missed the playoffs in his career. One by one the players that contributed to the 54 win season got worst. J.R. Smith, Raymond Felton and Tyson Chandler all had subpar seasons for the Knicks. We already knew Carmelo Anthony was the leader but he was the only guy playing well.
Fast forward to August and the Knicks are a different team. New coach, new players, new look Carmelo Anthony. Carmelo already admitted the Knicks won’t win the championship this year but when asked if they would bounce back and make the playoffs Carmelo said, “Yeah, I think so for sure…I can’t wait to get started.”
The East did have a team make the playoffs with 38 wins last year. Teams like the Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Charlotte Hornets have gotten better. The Miami Heat will still be a good team along with the Toronto Raptors. If Al Horford returns to form the Atlanta Hawks will be a better team also.
I expect the Nets and the Pacers to take a big step back this year and the New York Knicks can find a way to make the playoffs. The Nets lost their coach Jason Kidd, Shaun Livingston and Paul Pierce. We already know the Pacers lost Lance Stephenson to free agency and Paul George to a broken leg.
The New York Knicks have a focused Carmelo and they should move pass the Nets and Pacers. We have never seen a slim Carmelo Anthony and I can’t wait to see him play.
