The Cleveland Cavaliers will soon be adding free agent Shawn Marion to the team and he will be a good pickup for this team. The Cavs are a young team and I already wrote that veteran teams win championships.
It is no surprise that LeBron is getting veterans to join him in Cleveland. He’s the best player in the world and veterans want to win titles. However this is not the first time LeBron has had veterans join him in Cleveland.
LeBron has played with plenty of veterans during his first tenor in Cleveland. He already had Zydrunas Ilgauskas when he got there. Over the years they added Larry Hughes, Donyell Marshall, Wally Szczerbiak, Ben Wallace, Joe Smith, Antawn Jamison and even Shaquille O’Neal. The problem back then was LeBron never won anything. He couldn’t lead them to a championship.
After going to four straight NBA Finals and winning two titles, players trust LeBron now. Not only did he play with Mike Miller and James Jones but he won with them. The same goes for Ray Allen. Now that LeBron is a proven winner veterans will have no problem joining him in Cleveland.
On the other hand LeBron has not been able to get any young All-Stars to join him in Cleveland. If the Kevin Love deal goes through than he would be the first All-Star who actually wanted to go to Cleveland with LeBron.
Shawn Marion is a smart veteran with championship experience. He’s a good locker room guy and he will be a defender off the bench for the Cavs. He gives the Cavs depth, experience and defense. The Cavs could use all three of those things going forward if they want to win a title.
The Bulls are still the favorite to me because they have more experience playing together. I expect the Cavs to challenge them all season but I would not be surprised if the Cavs beat them in the Eastern Conference Finals.
