I enjoy when trades happen in the league. I always want to see multiple trades in February as the trade deadline approaches. I always want teams to “shake it up”. So as we wait for the Kevin Love trade to happen or not happen, I decided to play with ESPN’s NBA Trade Machine.
I just threw together some trades to see if I could get them to work.
I started with the Boston Celtics and New York Knicks. Knick fans want a point guard and I don’t see the Celtics keeping Rondo for the whole season.
Celtics get – Amar’e Stoudemire and Iman Shumpert
Knicks get – Rajon Rondo and Jeff Green
The teams would exchange draft picks. This trade only works if Rondo actually agrees to resign with the Knicks. With this trade the Celtics are predicted to win two more games and the Knicks would lose five more games. This is only based on the PER of the players traded. I would like to hear how Knick fans would feel about this trade.
With the injury to Paul George the Pacers should look to move Roy Hibbert. It was hard trying to find a team that could really use Hibbert and his talents. I think I found a match with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Pacers get – Kendrick Perkins and Jeremy Lamb and 2015 draft pick
Thunder get – Roy Hibbert
Kendrick Perkins is in the last year of his deal and he does little to help this team. Roy Hibbert is just an upgrade. Perkins is supposed to be the tough defender who fouls people. Hibbert would greatly improve their defense. He might not play late in games when the Thunder want to go small. Hibbert helps them and they need to win a title soon before Kevin Durant hits free agency.
Perkins is a downgrade for the Pacers but they should want to lose more games to get a better lottery pick. They get a young player in Jeremy Lamb and he should get a lot more time with this group. Paul George will need some help on the wing when he gets back.
The Pistons should have jumped on the chance to move Josh Smith to the Sacramento Kings. Smith does not fit with the Pistons because he is playing out of position. The Kings could use an athletic power forward next to DeMarcus Cousins.
Pistons get – Carl Landry, Derrick Williams and Ben McLemore
Kings get – Josh Smith and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
The Kings have so many power forwards already in Landry, Williams, Jason Thompson, Reggie Evans and Jeremy Tyler. Getting rid of Carl Landry and Derrick Williams allows Thompson to be the backup to Josh Smith. McLemore and Pope are both young guard who are interchangeable. This trade would hopefully make Greg Monroe want to sign a real extension with the Pistons.
Another trade involving the Pacers’ Roy Hibbert is a deal with the Boston Celtics and Atlanta Hawks.
Pacers get – Rajon Rondo, John Jenkins
Celtics get – Roy Hibbert
Hawks get – George Hill
Again there would be some exchanging of draft picks among the teams. If the Pacers bring in Rajon Rondo they need to find a place for George Hill. Hill would be a good backup to Jeff Teague. Teague is improving and he played well in the playoffs but he did not have a good enough backup. George Hill brings experience to this Hawks team. The Celtics get a big man in Roy Hibbert and getting something for Rondo.
The last trade I did was another 3 team trade involving the Celtics, Pistons and Knicks. I don’t think Knick fans will like this trade that much.
Celtics get – Amar’e Stoudemire and Shumpert
Pistons get – Rajon Rondo
Knicks get – Jeff Green and Brandon Jennings
The Celtics would most likely receive draft picks from the Knicks. The Knicks still get rid of Stoudemire and get a point guard. They had a chance to draft Brandon Jennings but passed on him for Jordan Hill. Maybe the guidance of Carmelo Anthony and Derek Fisher could help Jennings become a better player. His shots would decrease while playing will Carmelo and he is a decent passer. If the Pistons don’t want to trade away Josh Smith they could bring in his best friend Rajon Rondo.
Again these are just some trades I threw together to see if they work. If you get a chance jump into the ESPN NBA Trade Machine and make some trades of your own. Save the trade and then post them in the comments section so I can see what you came up with.
