Both teams came out slow starting 0-3. Tim Duncan got it going early for the Spurs scoring their first nine points. Duncan was aggressive and took 10 shots in the first quarter.
LeBron led the Cavs in scoring with eight points and three assists. Both teams did a good job of moving the ball around. The Spurs had nine assists on 10 made baskets while the Cavs had six assists on eight made baskets.
The Cavs shot 4-7 from downtown but trailed after one 23-20.
LeBron James and Tim Duncan cooled down in the second quarter. For the Spurs Boris Diaw continued to do a little bit of everything. He had seven points and two assists in the quarter. For the half he had 11 points, five rebounds and four assists.
For the Cavaliers Anderson Varejao got some great passes and finished with eight points in the quarter. He went into the half with 12 points. Kyrie Irving was managing the game well, not forcing shots and getting everyone involved. When he checked back in at the 2:51 mark he got aggressive on the offensive end.
He went on to score the Cavs last eight points in the quarter to give the Cavs a 47-44 lead going into halftime. The Spurs continued to move the basketball well, getting 17 assists on 19 made baskets.
The second half had multiple lead changes. The Cavs went to Kevin Love early in the third quarter and he scored eight points in the quarter. LeBron only scored two points but he was a willing passer and had four assists in the quarter.
The Spurs got contributions from everyone but Diaw had six points and two assists and Corey Joseph had eight points. The Spurs were able to force five Cleveland turnovers and took a 72-69 lead into the fourth quarter.
Anderson Varejao continued his solid game with nine more points in the fourth quarter. The Cavs forced the Spurs into five turnovers of their own in the quarter.
The game came down to the wire and the Spurs did a great job of hitting their free throws. They shot 11-14 from the line in the quarter. The Cavs got a big layup from LeBron to cut the lead to one. Kyrie Irving hit two free throws to keep the lead at one but it wasn’t enough.
The Cavs had a chance at the end but LeBron turnover the ball over without getting a shot off. The Spurs won 92-90.
LeBron James finished with 15 points and nine assists on 6-17 shooting. Anderson Varejao had a season high 23 points and 11 rebounds.
Tim Duncan and Boris Diaw led the Spurs with 19 points apiece while Duncan and Kawhi Leonard finished with 10 rebounds apiece. Tony Parker struggled, shooting 2-7 and finishing with eight points. He did hit all four of his free throws in the fourth quarter.
The Spurs improved to 4-3 on the road and 7-4 overall. Their next game is on Friday at the Timberwolves.
The Cavs drop to 5-5 and also play on Friday at Washington.
