Wednesday night is all about the double header on ESPN. The first game should be a good one between the San Antonio Spurs and Cleveland Cavaliers. The second game is the LA Lakers and the Houston Rockets which might turn into a blowout in the third quarter.
There are 11 games on the night but eight of them start at 7:00 or 7:30. Outside of the ESPN game there are two other good games that start early; Dallas Mavericks-Washington Wizards and Memphis Grizzlies-Toronto Raptors.
Dallas Mavericks @ Washington Wizards 7:00 pm
The Mavericks are on a four game winning streak while the Wizards are on a three game winning streak.
On Monday night the Mavericks went into Charlotte and blew them out easily. They do a great job of moving the ball and are second in the league in shooting percentage at 49%. The Mavs have struggled on the defensive end but held the Hornets to only 80 points.
The Wizards have not played since Saturday so they will have plenty of rest. At 7-2 the Wiz are off to a great start but they have no beat a good team. They lost to the Heat in the opener and were blown out in Toronto. They beat the Pacers twice and the Magic twice.
This should be a high scoring game since the Mavs are so good on offense and bad on defense. The Wiz have to take advantage of the John Wall-Jameer Nelson matchup. Wall must get his teammates involved and cut down on the turnovers.
On the other side Monta Ellis will have the advantage against Garrett Temple. Monta is a good playmaker and will slice through the defense to get his guys open looks.
The Mavs could blow them out but expect John Wall and the Wiz to keep it close at home.
Memphis Grizzlies @ Toronto Raptors 7:30 pm
The Grizzlies have the best record in the NBA after beating the Houston Rockets on Monday night. Despite getting handled at home against the Bulls the Raptors are still 8-2.
The Raptors had a tough time stopping Pau Gasol and now they will have their hands full with Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol. Pau had 27 points and 11 rebounds on 12-19 shooting.
The Grizz have the best defense in the league and have the weapons to slow down Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan. Against the Bulls and Jimmy Butler, DeRozan shot 3-17 and finished with 10 points.
The game might be a slow grind because the Grizz make every game a grind but they did put up 119 points on the Rockets. The Rockets were in a second game of a back to back so don’t expect the Grizz to be running and gunning in Toronto.
The Raptors have a quality win over the Wizards but have lost to both the Heat and Bulls. They need to play well against a really good defensive team.
The Raptors are 6-1 at home and should put up on a good show in front of the home crowd. The Grizz will keep it close and the game will be won late in the fourth by the team that executes down the stretch.
