In their first two games the Los Angeles Lakers were ran out of the building. On opening night they lost Julius Randle for the season with a broken leg. Kobe did not force the issue in his first game but in the second game he got up 25 shots to score 31 points.
They looked sluggish in Phoenix because they played the previous night. Phoenix is a young team that likes to push the pace and the Lakers couldn’t keep up.
Last night the Lakers gave their best effort of the season so far against the Clippers. They finally cracked 100 points and lost by seven points. They held the lead late but the Clippers had too much fire power.
The Lakers are 15th in scoring at 100 points per game which is not bad. Their problem is on the defensive end where they are giving up 115 points per game which is slightly better than Brooklyn who only played one game.
So with all that said is it possible for the Lakers to start the season 0-7? There next four opponents are the Warriors, Suns, Hornets and Grizzlies. Aside from the Suns those are three playoff teams. A winnable game might be on the road at the Pelicans but Anthony Davis might be on a rampage by then.
After the Pelicans they face the Spurs, Warriors and Hawks. Again that Hawks game is on the road. The rest of November will be at Houston and Dallas, followed by a four game home stand against the Nuggets, Grizzlies, Timberwolves and Raptors.
Coach Scott doesn’t want them taking three pointers so they only take about 14 per game and make four on 32% shooting. However they don’t guard the three pointer, allowing opponents to make 13 three pointers a game at 42%.
We all knew they would be bad but I don’t think it would be this bad. They might only win four games this month. They will be on NBA TV twice and ESPN twice so expect to see the Lakers continue to struggle.
How many games do you think the Lakers will win this month?
