Well things just got a lot worse for the Oklahoma City Thunder as Russell Westbrook left last night’s game with a fracture in his right hand. Without Westbrook the Thunder still put up a tough fight against the Clippers only losing by three points.
We still don’t know how long Westbrook will be out but if he misses extended time the Thunder will be in trouble in a tough Western Conference.
Without Durant we expected Westbrook to carry the team and keep them afloat. Without both of these guys the Thunder can find themselves fighting and clawing their way back into a playoff spot.
They have winnable games coming up against the Bucks, Celtics, Nets and Jazz. However they still have to face playoff teams like the Raptors, Grizzlies, Warriors and Rockets. They have nine home games so that should give the reserves more confidence.
The one good thing from last night was the aggressiveness of Perry Jones. He scored a career high 32 points on 10-17 shooting. The Thunder still has Serge Ibaka but he is not a creator. Other guys will have to step up but Jones will be looked at as the scoring option going forward.
With so many players out with long-term injuries, they can apply for an extra roster spot.
