2014-2015 Sixth Man of the Year Predictions
Taj Gibson (Bulls) – He played the majority of the fourth quarter last year. He had a career high in minutes per game and points per game. He’s a favorite of Tom Thibodeau but with the addition of Pau Gasol it remains to be seen how much time Gibson will play late in games. He will see time at both Power Forward and Center because Noah has been banged up. He’s very good on the defensive end and that will keep him on the floor.
Ryan Anderson (Pelicans) – Anderson is coming off surgery to repair his herniated disc. In only 22 games last season he knocked down 67 three pointers. Coming off the bench he will get plenty of opportunities to score the ball. He’s an underrated rebounder, especially on the offensive end. Expect him to see more time at small forward alongside Omer Asik and Anthony Davis.
Isaiah Thomas (Suns) – Coming off a career year with the Kings, Thomas should be a good scorer off the bench for the Suns. He’s put up decent scoring numbers in limited minutes in the past. We still don’t know if Eric Bledsoe will be healthy for the entire season so expect Thomas to get more opportunities.
Vince Carter (Grizzlies) – For the first time in his career Vince Carter did not start a single game last season. He will be an upgrade for the Grizzlies because they struggle to stretch the floor. Carter still hit 161 three pointers and averaged 11 points per game. Playing with Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph will allow Carter to get more open shots. Mike Conley will also get into the lane and get Carter open threes from the corner. Expect his scoring to rise slightly in his first season with the Grizzlies.
Jamal Crawford (Clippers) – He’s already won this award twice and is an early favorite. He’s a big time scorer who has the green light whenever he enters the game. With a healthy JJ Redick his minutes might decrease but he will still play late in games.
Winner: Ryan Anderson
I think Ryan Anderson will return and win this award. He was having a career year before he went down last year. He will be among the league leaders in three points made and percentage.
